Well at tleast the fans delivered their side of the bargain – 10,116, including 2,519 for the Albion, decided that Brighton were worthy of close attention. In return Brighton decided to give Posh a footballing lesson. Which is a shame really because you’d think Posh would’ve had a gut full of lessons recently.

Posh were already one down when Boyd reacted uncharacteristically following a dust-up with Dicker. His straight red probably meant he was saved embarrasment. Lewis saved a penalty but later gave one away just to keep his ledger in balance. The good news, of course, is that Posh won’t be facing Brighton every week. The bad news is that the six-point cushion above the relegation places will start to look thin if the team don’t improve their performances.

Maybe Johnson should do the honourable thing and pay for the trip to Walsall anyway?

Following some nasty comments by Dons boss Karl Robinson (above right) in the close season Posh were fired up and ready to stuff these shady upstarts who think they can just waltz in here with their made up club.

Robinson, the youngest manager in the football league, had accused the Posh side of being “smelly” and suggested that Director of Football, Barry Fry was a “poo-poo head”. Harsh words which may have psychologically affected most teams. Thankfully Posh have a cool head in front of goal in the guise of Craig Mackail-Smith (above left) and he neatly opened the scoring after some sloppy defending from Matthias Dumboe.

Seconds later and it was Langmead being the dumboe, giving Dons a way back into the match before London Road goal machine Aaron McLean headed home.

Robinson was unavailable for comment after the game, sources made up by us say he’s feeling a bit overtired and needs Mr Booboo so he can have a nap on the way home.

Have you seen Mr Booboo? If so, or if you have anything else to say why not go to the forum

Another goalfest at London Road – and another comeback from 2-0 down.

Here’s what MattJ had to say in the match thread:

“Brilliant second half. Even at 2-0 down I wasn’t worried. When we got it back to 2-1 I thought we’d get a point at least.

I wouldn’t say we played brilliantly the whole half, but the commitment and desire from everyone in a blue shirt was excellent to see and they thoroughly deserved the 3 points on that alone.

Oldham were quite a decent side, but another of those teams that let themselves down by all the time wasting and play-acting. What do we expect from Paul Dickov and friends though.

I liked No.36 Tounkare. He clearly loves playing football and does it the right way and has a lot of potential there.

Good atmosphere, but I am disappointed with the crowd numbers, I knew Oldham wouldn’t bring many, but come on, 5956 Posh fans? We haven’t had a game since 24 August (21st if league only fans).

Where were the missing fans? You should have been there with us 5956!

Lewis 7 – Made up for not attempting to save goals with couple of good saves nd half
Whelpdale – 7 – Did okay but can’t be 100% happy playing right back
Langmead – 7 – Sound job
Bennett – 7 – Sound job
Rowe – 7 – Even better than last season, didn’t get forward much but job done.
Boyd – 7 – Fairly quiet, but chasing down and getting ball for goal superb
Wesolowski – 8 – He gets everywhere, brilliant desire to win the ball
McCann – 7 – Did the job and great corner for Hibbert
Tomlin – 7 – Won’t be as fit just yet, but did okay and some good runs
Mclean – 9 – He is in the mood for goals and has got the fire back
Mackail-Smith – 9 – Deserved a goal, never gave up and those defenders will be pleased to be going home”

Another strong 2nd half performance set Posh on their way, with a brace from Craig Mackail Smith (thats 4 goals at Home Park for him this year) and a header from Aaron Mclean. Posh now move up to 2nd in the table.

If you were one of the lucky 274 that made the trip. then please post your thoughts about the game in the match thread.

I cant say I remember a much better start to a season than this one with goals a plenty. It really is the perfect tonic at the moment

Bring on Tranmere away next Saturday and up the Posh!

Posh returned to form against the ‘udders in an emphatic 2nd half that saw Posh, in a space of eight minutes either side of half time, see a two goal deficit turned well and truly on its head. After failing to defend two set pieces within 30 minutes the writing was on the wall. However, an absolute howler on the stroke of half time gave the home fans cause for optimism after a niggly first half full of time wasting and feigned injuries stopped any flow to the game. When it finally clicked, the attack play was breathtaking but there are still big questions to be asked at the back. With the season still young, this should improve as things must surely still be settling down. Still that’s 12 for and 8 against in 4 matches, not bad for the neutral. The true test will not be on Tuesday against Premiership wannabes Cardiff, but in the successive away games that follow. How attacking should the tactics be? Have your say on the forums!

Thanks to londonroad.netter alski for the update.

A large travelling Posh contingent left Dean Court soggy and miserable after the first away match of the season ended in a 5-1 humiliation. Kelvin Langmead’s goal was the only positive for Posh, as a 15-minute hattrick from Brett Pitman brought us back down to earth with a bloody great bump.

Speaking afterwards, Johnson told Radio Cambridgeshire he had laid into his underperforming players and hinted that one or two weren’t up for it. With that in mind, and a big home match against Huddersfield next Saturday, should we expect to see a different starting line-up? We suspect that the unconvincing pair of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Nana will be the first names struck off the team-sheet, with Tommy Rowe and Aaron Davies the two players most likely to benefit.
