14 goals this season for The Holy Trinity

Posh gained their first away points of the season this afternoon with a thumping 3-0 win at Plymouth Argyle. Another strong 2nd half performance set Posh on their way, with a brace from Craig Mackail Smith (thats 4 goals at Home Park for him this year) and a header from Aaron Mclean. Posh now move up to 2nd in the table.

If you were one of the lucky 274 that made the trip. then please post your thoughts about the game in the match thread.

I cant say I remember a much better start to a season than this one with goals a plenty. It really is the perfect tonic at the moment

Bring on Tranmere away next Saturday and up the Posh!

Posh 2 Cardiff 1

There's only one George Boyd

Posh continued possibly their most thrilling start to a season at London Road last night by once again coming from behind and turning in a sparkling 2nd half display. The first half saw Cardiff dominate through the likes of Bothroyd, Koumas and Olifinjana before the Holy Trinity took over…

Even with his right foot George Boyd is a football genius, and many more strikes like that and he will surely be crowned the greatest player ever to grace the London Road pitch.

Analysis of the game and much more will be featured in the new episode of Standing On The Glebe (the unofficial Posh fans podcast) which will be hitting the airwaves tonight and can be downloaded via itunes and at www.standingontheglebe.co.uk

Posh 4 Huddersfield 2

Ever had your udders feeled?

Posh returned to form against the ‘udders in an emphatic 2nd half that saw Posh, in a space of eight minutes either side of half time, see a two goal deficit turned well and truly on its head. After failing to defend two set pieces within 30 minutes the writing was on the wall. However, an absolute howler on the stroke of half time gave the home fans cause for optimism after a niggly first half full of time wasting and feigned injuries stopped any flow to the game. When it finally clicked, the attack play was breathtaking but there are still big questions to be asked at the back. With the season still young, this should improve as things must surely still be settling down. Still that’s 12 for and 8 against in 4 matches, not bad for the neutral. The true test will not be on Tuesday against Premiership wannabes Cardiff, but in the successive away games that follow. How attacking should the tactics be? Have your say on the forums!

Thanks to londonroad.netter alski for the update.

Will Johnson ring the changes?

A large travelling Posh contingent left Dean Court soggy and miserable after the first away match of the season ended in a 5-1 humiliation. Kelvin Langmead’s goal was the only positive for Posh, as a 15-minute hattrick from Brett Pitman brought us back down to earth with a bloody great bump.

Speaking afterwards, Johnson told Radio Cambridgeshire he had laid into his underperforming players and hinted that one or two weren’t up for it. With that in mind, and a big home match against Huddersfield next Saturday, should we expect to see a different starting line-up? We suspect that the unconvincing pair of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Nana will be the first names struck off the team-sheet, with Tommy Rowe and Aaron Davies the two players most likely to benefit.

3-0, 4-1… let the good times roll

Gary Johnson has started the season in styler

Gary Johnson has started the season in style

Happiness. Remember that? It’s all come flooding back thanks to a handsome opening day victory, as goals from George Boyd, Aaron McLean and Grant McCann saw off Bristol Rovers, and then The Holy Trinity plus Ryan Bennett scored in a 4-1 Carling Cup win over Rotherham. In the latter of those two games, just over 4,000 fans saw some delightful moves put together by a lively Posh side, with the only downer being a nasty looking injury suffered by McLean, who was stretched off in a leg brace. Everyone at londonroad.net wishes him a full and speedy recovery.

Cheeky chappy Lee Tomlin

Cheeky chappy Lee Tomlin

On the eve of the League One opener, Gary Johnson has added two more players to his squad, Rushden striker Lee Tomlin and journeyman benchwarming goalkeeper Steve Collis. Tomlin has cost a reported £150,000 (what else?) and Collis is just here on a month-long contract.

If you’re at tomorrow’s match against Bristol Rovers, you can share your verdict in The London Road End – and make sure you check out the new Posh podcast at www.standingontheglebe.co.uk – which is hosted by our good friends Chris and Jamie – two long-time londonroad.netters, but don’t hold that against them.

Record signing on the way?

Poshs next signing?

Posh's next signing?

Posh are understood to be closing in on the signature of Gillingham’s Canadian striker Simeon Jackson. Posh were previously linked with Jackson when he played for Rushden and Diamonds (remember them?) but the proposed fee at that time was considerably less than the expected £500,000+ figure being touted this week.

Jackson would join Gary Johnson’s other summer signings, midfielders James Wesolowski and Grant McCann, full-back Mark Little and striker Dave Hibbert. With four strikers on the books, would it mean either Aaron McLean or Craig Mackail-Smith is on his way out?

Time will tell, but McLean has thrown his toys out of his pram more than once and has been linked to a number of Championship clubs…

Dave Dave Hibbert

Dave 'Dave' Hibbert

Gary Johnson has begun his rebuilding of the Posh squad with the signing of striker Dave Hibbert from Shrewsbury. The 25-year-old scored 15 goals for the Shrews last season and will supposedly offer us that elusive ‘something different up front’. Other rumours see Posh linked with a move for Leicester’s 22-year-old midfielder James Wesolowski. You can keep track of who’s coming in here and who’s going out here. So far, it’s a case of farewell and best wishes to: Danny Blanchett, Sam Gaughran, Billy Crook, Tom Williams, Jamie Day and Alfie Potter, with many more players you’d forgotten existed also on their way out. In other news, Posh have arranged pre-season friendlies at Rushden (July 17), Gillingham (July 20) and Kettering (August 2) and at home to West Ham on July 14 and Nottingham Forest on July 24.

Johnson to take charge this week

Gary Johnson

Young and hungry?

Londonroad.net understands that former Bristol City, Yeovil and Cambridge manager Gary Johnson will be named as the new manager of Peterborough United within the next 48 hours. Johnson, who watched from the directors box as Posh were unlucky to lose 3-2 to Newcastle on Easter Saturday, is expected to sign a long-term contract and will take charge of the home game against Leicester on Saturday. Jim Gannon’s last game will be the trip to Barnsley on Easter Monday.

Gannon decides not to stay – can you blame him?

Oh well, normal service is resumed

Oh well, normal service is resumed

Gannon’s leaving at the end of the season, we’re rock bottom and 10 points from safety, we got beaten 4-0 at Scunthorpe… we might do another update this season. But only if something really exciting happens…
