On Tuesday the club announced that a bid from Norwich had been rejected, cue simultaneous release of held breaths. But what’s this? Canary fans are reporting on their forums that Barry Fry is a Carrow Road, surely not?

Finally the Norwich board announced that they’d withdrawn their interest in CMS after Posh ‘moved the goalposts’ during the negotiations. One can only speculate, but it sounds like someone told Fry to demand a ridiculous fee for Craig because our needs are more important than any other team.

The loan window doesn’t close until Thursday 25th March so there’ll be more twists and turns on this story.

A handful of Posh fans were unlucky enough to hear Dion Dublin exclusively reveal, to a TV audience of hundreds, that CMS was signing for Norwich today. Those few duly wound up a few more by repeating the ‘news’ by whatever media they could lay their hands on. By morning the londonroad.net community was in a right old lather.

You know it’s bad when folk are trying to decipher whether the expression ’conf’, tweeted by BBC journo, means conference or confirmation. Anger and angst poured out like radiation from a Japanese nuclear power station. It took a Posh SMS (50p – first with the news) to cool down the reactors and divert the agitated crowd towards Barry Fry.

So, in summary, CMS isn’t going to Norwich today. The lad’s disappointed, but he’ll continue to play his heart out for Posh until he goes in the summer, because he’s 27 you know and getting on a bit. And the even better news is that Posh won’t be getting Simeon Jackson as ballast in the deal that isn’t taking place.

No one, not one single person saw it coming.

Johnson turns up for work on Monday morning, and is out of the club by Monday evening. Within hours the rumours of a Ferguson return have begun, and by the time David Oldfield’s side runs out against Brentford the former Wrexham player (sic) is sat beside the Chairman in the Director’s Box.

A terse statement on Monday night simply said Darragh and Gary hadn’t seen eye to eye on policy – that told us nothing. After the Brentford game came the announcement of a press conference on Wednesday and we all knew what that meant.

The club and Ferguson are making grand statements about the ‘haste’ and ‘mistakes’ surrounding the original fall-out and we’re all invited to bury the past and move on. Which is interesting given this is the fifth managerial appointment inside 14 months. Of course it might have been easier to forgive if the club hadn’t dished out various derogatory comments about Ferguson at the time of his leaving, but that’s another life lesson we’ll all have to learn.

Standing on the Glebe pulled off a superb scoop by interviewing the Chairman straight after the announcement. Follow the link on the right hand side to downlaod a copy, you won’t be disappointed.

Aaron McLean has joined Hull for a fee reported in the region of £1.3m, subject to appearances, targets, stage payments and Barry Fry keeping his mouth shut.

Dmac made it clear that the player had been on the transfer list for 15 months, wasn’t signing a new contract and was the first ‘star’ (we think we have three left) he had sold since he bought the club. Most fans think the price is fair and no one appears to have a bad word for the player who’s notched 84 goals in just under 200 appearances in his four years at Posh.

Good luck Aaron, thans for your goals and safe driving.

Posh must beat Brighton at home this Saturday

The crowd for the Brighton game must be at least 10,000

Number two is in our own hands (make sure you wash them afterwards) so it’s up to the team to deliver the right result.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

You can forgive us for lacking the enthusiasm to write about the Leicester game, and then I was at my mother-in-law’s on Boxing Day – and only got home on Sunday, by which time I was too stunned by the 6-3 win at Cheltenham to get my head around writing a triple update. Then we went and got a draw at the Hawthorns and all that, so here’s your update. Yes, it’s brief, but if you’re reading this you’ve got too much time on your hands anyway. You should be posting your thoughts on the Albion result in our London Road End forum, or discussing the line-up for the visit of MK Dons on Tuesday, or talking about Dr Who, Ulrika and darts on the Pub Talk forum. Now that’s a quality use of your valuable 4Mb broadband connection. Tim Berners-Lee would be delighted.
